Dialogues of Mortals and Gods
The 18th century was well aware of the age-old maxim that disparaged wind instruments in
comparison to their string counterparts. By exercising Reason and Balance, Classical composers created enlightening dialogues between the two musical families. This program shows just how harmonious the combination can be. Featuring music from the Golden Age of Classicism, the program draws from the rich and charming repertoire for oboe and string trio by Mozart and his contemporaries, and will be punctuated by cheeky pièces détachées by Franz Danzi.
